Tassimo vs Nespresso Coffee Makers
It’s true, Tassimo and Nespresso aren’t the only coffee / hot drinks machines on the market, but they probably are two of the most popular.
Like many well-known things, these coffee makers both have a very loyal following.
I am fairly new to the whole brewing machine experience and when I decided to buy a hot drinks machine I was amazed at how faithful my friends were to their favoured brand.
All in all it seemed a bit of a mine field, so I thought I’d share what I know with the coffee machine virgins out there, who are thinking of taking the plunge!
Tassimo or Nespresso - How to choose?
However, I don’t think most people will need to spend more than £200 for a counter top version of a coffee machine.
Essentially these hot drinks machines heat up water, drive it through a pod of beverage concentrate and into your waiting cup. Certainly some have more warning lights, a bigger water tank, water filter, cup warmer, cup holder light, but the basic function is the same.
So how do you choose which drinks machine is right for you?
For me the main considerations were a cross between price and drinks available. The real joy in the Nespresso and Tassimo machines is the vast array of hot drinks they produce. From standard Americano to a Latte Macchiato, you can have it all.
What swung it for me, however, was that Tassimo not only have a huge range of coffee, they also produce a variety of teas and hot chocolates.

It is a good value coffee machine and is available in 4 different colours.
If you still want value for money, but a whole range of hot beverages appeals to you, then consider the Bosch Tassimo T20. A simple to use machine and great value
Nespresso is fairly simple. You buy a pack of pods of your choice, insert one in the machine and then when the drink is ready, if required, add hot or cold milk. You can heat the milk yourself or if you prefer you can buy the Nespresso Citz and Milk machine with an Aeroccino milk frother attached.
As far as I am aware Nespresso pods aren’t available in high street supermarkets, although other brand “Nespresso type” pods are slowly becoming available. They can be bought direct from Nespresso or from other on line retailers such as Amazon.
The Gran Maestria by Magimix brings the coffee shop experience right into your kitchen!
However my Tassimo enables me to drink a range of hot beverages, the capsules are readily available in the supermarket and many of the drinks are considerably cheaper. I like the Intellibrew system, and the speed and temperature at which drinks are produced.
